Singer, carpenter and pianist Edwin Joseph Bocage was born in New Orleans, Louisiana into a ship building family on September 20, 1930. He graduated from the Booker T. Washington High School and enlisted into the US Army. On discharge he enrolled at the Grunewald School of Music. At one time he toured backing many R&B artistes as The Spider Bocage Orchestra. He switched to R&B from Jazz because he earned more money from R&B.
A stalwart of the New Orleans music scene from 1955 onwards, Bo leaves many recordings on many labels, including Chess Records.
Eddie Bo died in Picayune, Mississippi, on March 18, 2009, from a heart attack.
