The Chants. John Linde and Peter Blaize Antonio are in the back row | Spectropop | tc237
John Linde and Peter Blaize Antonio (Peter Antell) from New York are two song writers and singers who had some success providing material for Cameo Parkway Records in the early 1960s. They were also members of the group The Chants.
In the book “Battle Notes: Music of the Vietnam War” by Lee Andressen, after writing songs and singing as members of group The Chants in 1961, Linde and Antell wrote a song called “Accordingly” which became a touchstone song for the War and a legendary anti-war recording. In effect they took an existing melody they had previously composed, and set new words to it. In the song, Antell tries to explain the war to his two year old child. Linde narrates the words on the recording, which was released by Cadet. They are also associated with the group The Percells and with other early 1960s girl groups.
Peter Antell also recorded under the name Pete Antell.
