Drummer Al Duncan was born in McKinney, Texas, on 8 October, 1927. He began playing drums in the bands of Ernie Fields and Jay McShann. During the 1960s he was in demand as a session drummer, playing on sessions for Chess, Vee-Jay and other labels. His drumming is heard on “It’s all right” by The Impressions, “Monkey Time” by Major Lance, and many other Chicago recordings of the 1960s, including sides by Little Walter, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Reed. He then moved to California. He died in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 3, 1995.
