Jazz, Soul and R&B guitarist Cornell Luther Dupree was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on 19 December 1942. He recorded on more than 2,500 sessions and recorded with Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis and many others. His guitar can be heard setting up and playing throughout "A rainy night in Georgia" by Brook Benton. He grew up with King Curtis in Fort Worth and joined his band The King Pins. He was a regular member of the studio band at Atlantic Records in New York. In 1972 he, Roberta Flack and Jerry Jemmott were injured in an auto accident in Manhattan, New York.
Cornell Dupree died in Fort Worth, Texas waiting for a lung transplant for emphysema on 8 May 2011.
