Bo Diddley (l) and Jerome Green (r) | Chess Records | tc546
Percussionist, lyricist, vocalist (and comedy foil for Bo Diddley) Jerome Green is understood to have been born in or near Chicago around 1934. He was a neighbour of Elias McDaniel (Bo Diddley) and his first maracas are understood to have been made from toilet parts filled with black eyed peas. He plays maracas on Bo Diddley’s hits “I’m a man” and “Bo Diddley”, and can also be heard playing on “Maybelline” by Chuck Berry.
Jerome Green is known to have died around 1973, possibly in New York City.
