Mitty Lene Collier was born in Birmingham, Alabama on 21 June 1941. She recorded 15 singles and one album for the Chess label from 1961 to 1968, the best known being “I had a talk with my man last night”.
She went on to record five singles with singer/producer William Bell. In the 1970s she decided to concentrate on a career in religion. In 1989 she became a preacher in Chicago and has worked at the University of Chicago, as well as writing plays and continuing to sing gospel music. She has received a number of humanitarian and other awards, including the National Council of Negro Women Woman of Wonder Award 2000.
