Jazz and blues drummer Oliver Coleman was born in Beaumont, Texas in 1914. He became one of the leading drummers and percussion teachers in Chicago, joining the Earl Hines Orchestra in the late 1930s. He performed extensive session work for the Chess record company in the 1950s and is also associated with singer Dinah Washington. Mr Coleman died in Chicago on November 6, 1965.
