Rock and roll, jump blues and rhythm and blues singer and pianist Archie A. "Stomp" Gordon was born in Columbus, Ohio, on 10 February 1926. A musical prodigy, he began playing publicly at age 13 and had his own band by 16. He was noted for his flamboyant on-stage clothes which included a zebra skin coat. His recordings were not as successful as his live performances and he only made the one recording for Chess, “The Grind”/”Don’t do me that way”.
Stomp Gordon died in New York City on 18 January 1958 from pneumonia and liver disease, aged 31.
