The Orbits

The Orbits | Image Restored By Google Archive | tc1103

The Orbits were a doo wop group from Jackson, Mississippi. Their release on Argo 5286 – “Mr. Hard Luck”/”Who Are You” was their only hit. They originally formed in 1953 as the Quails, and on this recording were George Jackson, Joe Graham, Charles Harper and Sam Jones, Jr. Their lone hit, “Mr. Hard Luck” was credited to the Orbits to avoid confusion with a rival group called The Quails on Deluxe. The group broke up shortly afterwards when at least one of the members was called up for the US Forces. They should not be confused with Johnny And The Hurricanes, who were originally also called The Orbits.
